Recalls

Jayco - Recalls
We bought our Jayco Jayflight SLX new in 2018. Since we have had 3 recalls. All 3 have been fire hazards. As a 25 year firefighter, this is very concerning. The most recent being the interior lighting. The dealer replaced all the interior lighting with LED per the recall. Our 1st time out this year, and I notice flickering while utilizing the pump (kitchen sink). Then it trips the breaker at the campground service. Upon inspection, I found that one particular light is the issue. Im no electrician, please review the pic and give me your input. Is this what typical soldering looks like? Thank you! Otherwise i love our jayco unit!

Poor craftmanship, shoddy customer service

To Whom it may concern, I am writing today to share my nightmare as a Jayco 5th Wheel owner. In April of 2018 our cabover camper went on it's final camping trip. My husband and I started shopping for new cabover's only to discover we could get a 5th wheel unit for not much more. Considering we are almost empty nesters and also preparing to rebuild our home, we decided to go big. We started shopping for toy haulers, husband wanted a garage, that we could also live in while our home was being rebuilt. After much searching, we decided that a Jayco Talon 413T would fit our needs the best and contacted a family friend that was an RV salesman. We gave him the go ahead to order the unit and scheduled pick-up of the unit for June 13, 2018. We purchased a new Ram 3500 to tow the unit with and spent the month preparing our yard, new truck, and purchasing the things we would need for such a large unit. A week before the scheduled date, our salesman called to let us know that delivery would be delayed due to the manufacture having to close it's facility due to an incident. On July 11, 2018, we finally were able to make the four hour dive to pick up our unit and all had a good laugh when we noticed that the factory had put the wrong designation stickers on it. We were due in Indiana that weekend for a family event so we left straight from the dealership on our first road trip. We stayed 4 days and had a wonderful time but when we packed up the passenger side slide wasn't acting right. We were also having more trouble than we should have dumping our gray and black tanks. Once we returned home, we planned a camping trip with family members and headed out. First stop, gas station to fill the fuel tank! What we expected to be a 10 min chore ended up being 2 hours at a pump, trying to get the fuel station to fill. Once we finally we able to head out, got to camp, and started to set up I noticed the passanger side slide was moving unevenly. During that trip, the unit would not switch from fuel station to generator, and the exterior handles to empty the tanks had both fallen off. In December of 2018, it went to our local dealership for repairs as it was still under warranty. At that time, the passenger side slide was rebuilt, all of the plumbing had to be redone because it was done wrong at the factory (hence why the tanks wouldn't drain), the fuel system was fixed but then put back the way it was because that's how Jayco wanted it, the handles were replaced, the door between the living area and garage had to be re-hung since it was crooked , screws in the molding and stairs had to be replaced because they weren't placed properly and were protruding, lights in the storage compartment and under the stairs had to be wired because they weren't done at the factory, and the roof had to be resealed due to damage incurred during it's original transport from factory to dealership. It took the dealership almost 4 months to make said repairs due to push back and delayed shipping of parts from Jayco. We were able to go on a couple of camp trips before going to the Dakota's for a month. That trip, the unit was parked in a rv park and we tested the theory of full time living in the unit. For the most part, everything went well until the unit started to fry every phone charger plugged into the kitchen island. Once again, when we went to pack up and head home, the passenger slide started coming in crooked again. Knowing that we were already committed to a hunting trip at the end of October and we had out of town guest coming, we called the dealership and planned to bring it again after the hunting trip. During that trip, the outside weatherstripping on the nose started to come off as well. We also learned on that trip that even though Jayco put a nice little climate sticker on it that the unit could not handle nighttime temperatures of 35 degrees without the heater (set at 55) running the batteries dead by morning and the plumbing freezing. When we got home, we winterized the unit, cleaned it, and prepped it to go back in the repair shop. I have not been able to get my unit back from the shop yet because Jayco keeps giving us the run around, gives us and the dealership false tracking numbers and delivery dates They refuse to fix the fuel station or the electrical outlet in the kitchen island. I have tried to call the warrenty dept, customer service, and even the main office number for Jayco. A lady by the name of Anita was suppose to help us resolve these issues, but that to was just lip service. They won't return phone calls or emails. They won't respond on social media. At this point, my traveling palace has turned into a traveling nightmare and I'm making monthly payments on a lemon that I can't even make lemonade from. It has spent half the time we have owned it in the shop or unable to use due to Jayco's negligence and since my state has no rv lemon laws, they know that they can continue to jerk us around with no consequences. At this point, it's obvious that this unit was defective from the assembly line and will be nothing but a 40ft yard ornament. I have already had to cancel my kids graduation party cause we can't go camping as they requested and I can not start building my new house because the repair shop frowns on customers living in their lot. At this point, we are so fed up that we feel as though there are only 3 options. 1. Swap out the unit for an identical year and model that wasn't rushed thru assembly and hopefully put together right. 2. extend our warranty for the unit we already have for the amount of months it's been in the repair shop and unable to be used or 3. Parking it in Derald Bontragers front yard and letting him deal with the nightmare. What we will not due is continue to be treated in such a poor manner by Jayco and their associates. We want nothing more than to enjoy the product that we spent $70,000+ of our hard earned money on and are more than happy to work with Mr. Bontager and company to resolve this but we will no continue to be ignored. Sincerely, Robert and Star Shifflett owners of Traveling Nightmare aka 2019 Jayco Talon 413T.

Campers World in Davenport, Iowa will not stand behind their travel campers

Update by user Apr 14, 2020

In addition Campers World of Davenport is asking for an addional $90 for looking at the frig to determine that they will not stand behind the guarantee.

Original review posted by user Apr 14, 2020
We were camping in Florida for 3 months and shortly after arriving our refrigerator quit. We were required to have a certified Norcold repairman, which we found after several phone calls. He came to our campsite and did some checking and ordered a new cooling coil for it. It took several days to do all this. When he came to install the part and took the frig apart, he realized that the fins inside of refrig was improperly installed. He notified Norcold of this and documented all of this because in his opinion it will quit again and if the guarantee is over we might have trouble getting it covered. Well, quess what? CW of Davenport, will not stand behind it now even though the camper was purchased in August of 2019 and this all happened 5 months later. We had to throw away around $250 of food besides being without a refrigerator for over a week. We had to dine out for this time.

User's recommendation: Do not believe anything Campers World tells you in regards to guarantee.

Be aware of delays getting warrantee work approved and done

Jayco - Be aware of delays getting warrantee work approved and done
Jayco - Be aware of delays getting warrantee work approved and done
Purchased our 2019 Precept Prestige 36H in November 2019. Gave the dealer a list of items needing repair during the walk through. We have added several items to the list over the past 3 months while living in the RV full time. This list was sent to the dealer for further approvals of repairs. We went in for our punch out list of repairs in December, but the wrong list was given to the technician (dealers issue), and wasted an entire day and only one item was fixed (leaking water filter causing a continuous stream of water because of a missing O ring). Now we are at the end of February and still no response from the dealer on the warrantee list being approved, even after several emails and phone calls to follow-up on the status. Jayco closes for Christmas holidays, so everything gets backed up. Purchasing a new RV in the fall/winter may save you money but it does not save you time or frustration. We understand the POLICY is approval is required from Jayco to have the warrantee work done, before the dealer can order the parts. Then we have to wait for the parts to arrive before we can even schedule a time for the work to be done. As a result, I hope we can still leave FL in April, or will we be stuck here waiting in repairs for another 3 months, arggggg. This process needs to be corrected to improve “Customer Service”, it’s a real shame when you find an RV that will meet your full time lifestyle and have to become so frustrated with the lack of response time and service. As for the repairs, so far a lot of them are relatively minor and do not interfere with our life in the RV or moving it....we are so glad of that.

Update 7/1/2020 - Well now it’s July and we are still waiting for these issues to be resolved. We were told everything was approved, but parts would take 6-8 weeks to come in.

It’s now been 12 weeks all part are in, but no technician is available to do repairs despite our appointment we made a month ago. If they can not do the work, then they should have notified us before we arrived. Service manager is not sympathetic and the list of fixes keep growing. Just this week the rear stabilizer will only operate manually, electric windshield blind does not roll down completely, and the large slide does not always go out or return without pushing it.

I am ready to travel to Indiana to have these things fixed!

The dealer wants to sell and not provide good customer service, which will impact Jayco’s reputation. I should say, I expect issues, but not the lack of service.

Do not purchase Jayco Pinnacle 2011 35 KPTS

Large slide has been an issue. We purchased a little used unit privately not knowing there were going to be issues. Worked fine at first but quit without warning. Had motors on big slide replaced once and are having issues again. Now stuck with having to get mobile repair. Would NEVER buy a unit with big slide again because the slide is so big and heavy. At least a Jayco is NOT the one to buy.

2 years ago last month we ordered a 2018 Jayco Eagle 317RLOK. We love the 5th wheel as it took us 2 years to find the RV of our dreams for retirement.

Needless to say, we will never buy another Jayco again. It’s definitely a LEMON! To mention a few of the more than 50 items this RV has been in the shop and has been in the shop again since Nov. 5th 2019.

Some of these item have been repaired and back in the shop for more warranty work are as follows; new oven as the first one caught fire twice, and still not working properly, 2 new roofs replaced, living/ dining room flooring ripped cause by defective slides, 2 tv’s replaced, continuing issues with 2 of the 3 slides, 3 out of 4 wheel bearing set failures at 7,000 miles/9 months of use, several water leaks inside the RV, along with 2 out of 3 hot & cold water lines reversed, toilet continues to drip from the flush seal that’s been replaced twice, internal wall is bubbling and separating, furnace quit working one week after Jayco performed a fix on a manufacturers recall, and the list goes on. The RV as of today has been in the shop for 302 days of the 2 years that have owned it. This is our third trip to the dealership and their still waiting on parts. Not a Great track record do you think for Jayco?

Is anyone else out there having this much grief with their RV? If so I’d like to here about it.

Do not buy from this company

I purchased a Jayco travel trailer two years ago .. already had a faulty jack and dinette table quality horrible Already broken screws stripped underneath U call customer service and its horrible to deal with this company they cover nothing or they make u drive hours They say u can take it to anyone and have it serviced but it is only through a Jayco dealership which could be hours away!!... Therefore I would have to drive hours and spend more money in gas then what it costs for a very cheap part they cover and replace for u. I just found out they only cover 50.00 to replace my table and I took it to a repair company and its not even covering anything .. whole table cost 300+ and then they say if u dont Get their part then warranty isnt covered but they dont replace the cost it requires to get part. Just horrible.. oh and u have to get an estimate for their records but it costs money to do that and doesnt get reimbursed to u either! If u are looking for a trailer do not buy a Jayco one get a different company! Trust me! Horrible horrible experience and biggest mistake!

Customer service is terrible!

Talked was Beth and Samantha, and got nowhere on a fast train. Very rude and do everything possible to NOT help you. I received help from Sean , and he was very forthcoming with information, and I sincerely think he tried to help. I did take it to a dealer that they recommended and apparently they didn't know what they were doing, so our heater is still not working. After talking to Sean I think our problem will soon resolved. It was definitely a terrible experience dealing with Beth and Samantha and I would recommend definitely not talking to them if you have a problem. I definitely have regrets purchasing a Jayco.
